Avoiding Chronic Pain After an Auto Injury

Over 2 million people are hurt each year in automobile accidents in the U.S. While some people are able to heal from their injuries fairly quickly, others are left to deal with chronic pain and disability. We see many of these patients here in our Fargo office. Thankfully, Balance Chiropractic & Rehab is here to help you recover from your auto injury.

The science confirms what we see in our office: A British study was carried out on 28 individuals diagnosed with chronic whiplash syndrome. Each participant received chiropractic care and 93 percent of them found relief following their adjustments, even though 43 percent of whiplash sufferers overall usually never find relief. This confirms that chiropractic is a great way to avoid long-term pain after a crash.

It's important to note that research has also found that putting off care after a car crash can adversely affect healing time, so getting in to see Balance Chiropractic & Rehab immediately is key to having a quicker recovery.

Balance Chiropractic & Rehab has worked with many auto injury patients, and we're here to help you, too. Call our Fargo office today for more information or an appointment.

Why You Should Avoid Drugs for Back Pain

Fargo chiropractic back pain treatmentChiropractic is centered on the approach of helping your body to naturally heal through spinal adjustments and lifestyle changes that promote overall health. For Balance Chiropractic & Rehab, this involves working to reestablish your body's normal functioning to avoid the need for medications or surgery. We find that many of our Fargo patients are happy to find a natural approach for their health problems.

One advantage of chiropractic is that it helps people decrease or eliminate the use of drug treatments. Medications are oftentimes issued to patients who have back soreness. This is such a significant crisis that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a news release stating that opioid (painkiller) risks overshadow the advantages when prescribed for back pain.

Some of the most well-known narcotics, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Data offered by the AAN cite the fact that about half of the patients taking these drugs for a period of three months are still on them five years later. This can further complicate the issue of back pain and healing, especially if an opiate addiction arises.

Compare that to chiropractic care which features natural healing and the advantages are crystal clear. While a drug might be helpful at briefly relieving the symptoms of a health problem, it's not a real solution to the problem. A drug won't mend your damaged back; it will only cover up the pain.

Balance Chiropractic & Rehab will first examine you to get to the source of your back problems and then work with you to solve the problem -- without risky drugs.

If you're ready to get out of pain, naturally, give our Fargo office a call at (701) 893-7878 to make an appointment with Balance Chiropractic & Rehab.

Back Pain and Auto Injury

If you have back pain after a car accident, don't despair. Balance Chiropractic & Rehab sees this type of problem frequently in our Fargo office. Let's look at the root cause of back pain after a car crash and see how chiropractic can help.

During a rear-end car crash, your car and car seat are quickly accelerated forward against your torso. Since car seats don't perfectly align with the curve of your back, the car seat can put uneven pressure on your lower back. This can cause some of your spinal vertebrae to move in one direction while an adjacent vertebrae might move in another direction. This differential movement can sprain or strain the tissues that hold your spine together. This kind of injury can cause chronic back pain if not treated right away. Fortunately, chiropractic is one of the most effective ways to treat back pain.

Let us help you recover from back pain. Balance Chiropractic & Rehab has helped many people with the same condition, and we can probably help you, too. Dr. Pozarnsky will first determine what's causing your pain and then work to restore your body to its natural functioning. Ready to make an appointment? Give us a call at (701) 893-7878 and we'll get you back on the road to health.

Chiropractic Care Curbs Healthcare Costs

Let's face it: cost is a necessary factor when we're researching our health care options. We want high quality care that works without racking up unneeded health-care bills. At Balanced Chiropractic and Rehab, Dr. Pozarnsky understands your worries. We have many patients in Fargo who are on a budget and visit our practice because they get results and save money on their healthcare costs.

A growing amount of research reveals that chiropractic care is both effective and less costly than more invasive medical treatments.

In a recent paper, researchers investigated the medical spending of over 12,000 adults with spine conditions. They found that patients who used alternative therapies have reduced annual health-care expenses compared to patients receiving traditional medical treatments.

Chiropractic care contributed significantly to lowered costs since chiropractic accounted for 75% of alternative therapy use. Previous research has found that chiropractic care prevented recurring disability in patients with back pain which could help to reduce health-related spending.

Studies have also found that chiropractic lowers expenditures for patients by helping them eliminate risky treatments, exams, surgeries, and expensive drugs.

Alternatively, chiropractors work to take advantage of the body's inherent healing abilities with a variety of natural, successful modalities.

The majority of patients (79) suffered from chronic lumbar disc herniation lasting longer than three months. Each of the test subjects received chiropractic adjustments based upon the needs of each person. After fourteen days, 70% of the subjects had significant progress in pain and disability; and at three months, 90% had substantial gains. Even more important, the recovery was retained by patients, with over 80% of patients reporting improvement at the one-year mark.

Chiropractic Helps Elderly Stay Active

We see many back pain patients in our Fargo office, and while back pain is difficult, no matter what your age, it's especially problematic for older adults. At a time when mobility and health are more at risk than ever, dealing with a back condition can often make matters even worse. One 20-year study recently released in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics offers hope for individuals in this age range who are suffering with various back conditions, as researchers found that chiropractic provides a “protective effect” with regard to health and abilities, especially when compared to medical care.

Researchers looked at 1,057 persons with a mean age of 82 years (the minimum age was 70) who received either medical care or chiropractic treatment for a back related condition, resulting in a Medicare claim. The typical pattern of treatment for older adults with back pain consisted of either 12 chiropractic visits spread out over many weeks, or 1-2 visits with a medical doctor during the same time-frame. The goal of the research was to determine what, if any, difference there was between the effects of chiropractic and medical care when it came to self-reported health and ability to perform everyday activities.

What researchers found was that self-reported health was higher for the subjects who engaged in chiropractic care (71 percent) than for those that received medical care only (59 percent). Chiropractic patients also had fewer depression-related symptoms (1.42 versus 1.76 in the medical care group). Additionally, fewer individuals involved with chiropractic care reported being in pain when compared to the medical-care group, they exercised more, and had fewer hospitalizations.

Based on these findings, researchers concluded that chiropractic provides a “protective effect” against declines in activity levels and health for older adults with back issues. It should also be noted that approximately one-half of the study subjects were overweight. Therefore, health professionals who address this issue as well can give their patients a higher quality of life yet.

Don't let the effects of aging slow you down! Chiropractic is a safe and effective way to stay out of pain and keep yourself mobile. Give our office a call today at (701) 893-7878 for an appointment.

Winter Weather, Fargo, and Aches and Pains

Winter has arrived in Fargo, ND and with it comes aches and pains for many of our patients. Why do some people experience more discomfort in cold weather?

Differences in barometric pressure might be one cause. Pain patients are also fairly sensitive to any kind of painful stimulus, like cold, and that might also be why some folks experience more discomfort in the winter season.

Although we are unable to influence the seasons, we can do some things to relieve the discomfort from the winter months:

  • Get some exercise. Nothing warms up your body like physical activities, plus it helps boost your mood and keeps you fit!

  • Stay hydrated. When it's cold out and the humidity is low, it's easy to get dehydrated. Drink lots of water during the winter months.

  • Heat therapy. A heating pad can really do a lot to lessen aches and pains.

  • See your chiropractor! We're trained to help people with musculoskeletal pain and conditions, and we can help not only relieve the aches and pains of wintertime, but, most importantly, help resolve the underlying problem causing the pain in the first place.

Balance Chiropractic & Rehab In Fargo Offers Safe Solutions For Auto Accident Injury Pain

Balance Chiropractic & Rehab offers methods which are natural and non-pharmaceutical to victims of automobile accidents. Patients are encouraged to improve overall health and wellness.

PRESS RELEASE: Fargo ND, 04-NOVEMBER-2014 - Balance Chiropractic & Rehab and Dr. Daniel Pozarnsky, DC are pleased to announce that victims of automobile accidents can use chiropractic methods to obtain pain relief. Injuries from car accidents are some of the more common types. They include bumps and bruises, spinal twisting and resultant misalignment and whiplash-type injuries. Each of these can be helped by using the services of the Fargo chiropractor.

When there is an auto accident with injuries, the forces on the driver and any passengers, can be tremendous. Even when seat belts are worn, the person can be thrown forward or to the side, violently. In this situation, whiplash injuries are likely. The spinal column may become misaligned which is not only immediately painful, but can mean chronic pain later, unless a consultation is scheduled with Dr. Pozarnsky as soon as possible after the accident.

Chiropractors are able to determine where there could be issues with the alignment of the spinal column and provide methods which are effective in preventing serious chronic pain from developing. Soft tissue injuries are addressed with different types of chiropractic methods. Efforts improve the circulatory flow of blood, carrying nutritional building blocks to areas where tissues have been damaged.

The doctor uses both manual therapies and methods which depend upon today's technology to provide pain relief. In addition to acute care methods, the chiropractor encourages patients to make lifestyle changes to improve overall health levels. Specifically, improving nutrition, getting enough sleep, reducing stress and identifying exercises which promote better activity levels are all beneficial to patients looking for better overall health.

How To Feel Your Best With The Help Of A Fargo Chiropractic Clinic

Chiropractic is concerned with structural balance, freedom of movement, and strategies to prevent against injuries. Improving your health naturally will play a role in minimizing and protecting against damages before they occur. The Fargo chiropractor advises on the steps that need to be taken to ensure that physical wellness is achieved and maintained.

A healthy spine is balanced, without restrictions or pain. Many people experience limiting and debilitating effects when the spine is misaligned due to injury, poor posture, excessive weight, and degeneration. Learning the techniques that can be applied at home with chiropractic therapy can assist in preventing back ache and poor mobility.

Chiropractic care focuses on the support of a healthy spine including safe methods such as spinal adjustment too restore alignment. A skewed or misaligned spine puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and soft disc fluid that can contribute to severe pain and restricted movement. Once restored, problems such as back pain, limited mobility, headaches, and neck tension can be relieved.

The anatomical structure of the spine allows for fully functional and flexible movement while protecting the delicate nerves and tissues that extend from the column to the brain. When the health of the spine is compromised it can affect the transmission of messages to and from the brain causing difficulties in different aspects of physical operation. The correction of the spine makes it possible to engage in regular stretching, bending, and twisting without discomfort.

Wellness can be achieved with the stability of the spine and the maintenance of a healthy weight. Exercises must be engaged on a regular basis that will aid in strengthening the body against future damages and deterioration. Working out the muscles and applying technique for the back can improve muscle tone and support that may prevent against injuries.

Posture should remain aligned while sitting, standing, and sleeping. Invest in a good mattress for spinal balance to decrease neck and back tension. Time should be taken to consider the options available for your health and wellness.

Learn How A Fargo Chiropractor Alleviates Back Pain Without Surgery

A lot of individuals experience pains in their backs on a regular basis. There may be any number of factors that contribute to these issues such as stress, strains, pinched nerves or actual medical conditions. Many people choose to visit a Fargo chiropractor first to see if they can find relief without having to resort to medications or surgery.

Chiropractic care is considered an alternative form of therapy where a doctor attempts to resolve pain related issues through massage and adjustments. This is a field that does not use any medications, nor does it involve surgery. If the problem is determined to be outside their scope of work, the patient will be referred to an appropriate physician.

In this field, the primary focus is on the relationship between the nervous and skeletal systems. The goal is to use bone manipulation and manual adjustments of the spine to relieve pain. The application of precise force and specific massage therapies are the tools used to help the body begin healing on its own.

Quite often, back pain, numbness in the extremities and headaches are actually due to misaligned vertebrae pinching nerves in the spinal column. If the doctor is able to put the bones back in their proper place, the pressure may be relieved naturally. Of course, before any type of therapy is performed, a complete physical will be conducted to determine if medical care is more appropriate.

Patients who are treated in this manner typically receive advice on how to avoid future issues. They are educated on how practices like regular exercise and ergonomics can help keep things aligned. It is up to the individual to follow the suggested routines.

For those who experience headaches or back pains, chiropractic care might be a good option. It is great for those who prefer to avoid surgical or pharmaceutical routes whenever possible. A thorough evaluation will be done to determine the best course of action.
